In Berkshire you’re sure to find plenty of quaint cottages, retro 1970s family homes – and of course, quite a few modern properties that have had the ‘Grand Designs’ treatment. It was a joy to work on one of these impressive renovations in this project. This particular client had bought a 1970s property that needed a complete renovation. Through hard work and dedication they succeeded in turning it into a minimalist haven – complete with a lush outdoor area filled with traditional English greenery.
To make the most of the transformation and welcome in an abundance of natural light, the client needed the right glazing system to achieve that all-important wow-factor.
We designed a double glazed 12m wide set of 3 pane sliding doors in brushed platinum – perfect for watching the seasons change. With Ultraline, the client would also have the benefit of 20mm sightlines, a smooth-glide opening mechanism and an innovative electric locking system for peace of mind.
Most significantly from our point of view, this property features a floating corner at each end – a stunning, completely unique architectural illusion that allows the entire corner of each end of the house to disappear into the wall cavities. This ‘sliding pocket’ door is one of those features that instantly takes your breath away with its simplicity and beauty.
Needless to say, the client is thrilled with how the product choice has enhanced the aesthetic of their home. And we personally have found sitting in this area of the property (even just for a few moments) is a tranquil experience that melts away the pressures of everyday life as you watch the River Thames flow past.
